CONTEMPORARY FIBER ART EXHIBITION
A LARGE VISION ON FIBER ARTS
Author of the project ‘Asia-Europe’ – contemporary fiber art
exhibition is Erny Piret.
The idea of a dialogue
in contemporary textile art, is born on the occasion of the Biennial of Kaunas
(Lithuania) in 2009.
Curator and organizer of the first and second
international traveling exhibition ‘Asia-Europe’: Erny Piret, collaborator of
both editions: Kakuko Ishii.
The exhibition ‘Asia-Europe’
presents all kinds of creations in relation with Asian and European countries
and their textile techniques.
Vision on Fiber Arts
The exhibition is
focused on the innovation of cultural, regional and traditional textile
techniques. Essential in the
concept is the sculptural aspect, the creative use and innovation in the
techniques and materials, the transparency, the monochromatic relative and, in
consequence, the soberness in this Art vision. Colours are only used to highlight the technique. However, the
colour is never a determining factor in the work. The emphasis is on the
research and development of the
technology, and in the presentation.
The works are not made
in a classic or nostalgic mood, but in a specific and contemporary vision, the view of the
Asiatic and European artists selected for this event.
Fibre Arts is plural,
the creation is individual. Influenced by their culture and their experience,
the artists presents a diversity in the creation, in a community vision of the
’innovation of the techniques’.
